Split ends are caused from over working your hair. The strands become weak and split. The strands separate in multiple areas leaving you with broken uneven ends.  Many believe that split ends only occur at the end of the hair however, split ends can happen throughout your hair.

Split End Causes:

Elastics and rubber bands can break and pull your hair. Try hairstyles that don’t require elastics or use snag-free elastics.

Take it easy when combing and brushing your hair. Hair is fragile. Don’t tug and pull your hair. Use a detangler and wide tooth comb to style your hair with ease. And please, do not over brush.

Chemicals can cause damage to your hair. Go Natural. Chemicals can damage your hair. It does not matter if you relax, perm, straighten or color. All of these processes contain chemicals that can cause damage to your hair. If you must chemically treat your hair, take care of your hair by using products suited for your hair type and conditioner to add moisture to your strands.

Swimming is a great form of exercise and good for your health, but the chemicals in the water are bad for your hair. Add a leave in conditioner to your hair prior to swimming. Wear a swim cap. Be sure to shampoo and condition immediately after swimming.

Hard water can cause dryness and damage to your hair. If you shower in hard water, try adding a water softening system. Your skin will love it too.

Straight Blow Dry, Marc Anthony True Professional bye bye Frizz Keratin Smoothing Blow Dry Cream, Ted Gibson Build It Blow Drying Agent, Bead Head TIGI Superstar Blow Dry Lotion, and Garnier Fructis Blow Dry Perfector Balm

Before you turn on your blow dryer, use a blow dry cream. The thermal protection added to these products will help in reducing some damage caused by extreme heat. If the flat iron, curling iron or straightening comb is your best friend, add another, try styling aids with heat protection. Remember, the more heat you add to your hair, the more potential damage you are causing.

Is your diet causing your hair to split? A balanced diet is the key to better health and healthy hair, skin and nails. Add water, vitamins and good for you food daily to enhance your body, health and hair.

Split End Repair:

Get your hair trimmed at least ¼”. Trimming will help to get rid of some of the split ends; it will also shape and define your style.

Use a split end sealer. Sealers help to reduce the damage and help your hair look healthier. Sealers do not reverse nor do they repair the damage. Try Carol’s Daughter Monoi Split End Sealer ($25 Sephora.com) H-2-Ion ($59.95 h2ion.com)

Use a good shampoo and conditioner for your hair type.

Stop washing your hair daily. Reduce to 3 times a week instead.

Deep condition your hair at least twice a month.

Towel dry your hair whenever possible. Don’t rub, instead gently squeeze the excess water out of your hair.

Look forward to reduced split ends and a healthier head of hair.

Ring in the New Year with lips that POP

2012 beauty and fashion designers introduced us to vast  array of exciting color from daring to neutral and bold to beautiful.  I loved many of the color launches this year.  This was the year of the lip, soft, sassy and sexy.

“Whenever a female takes a strong stand for herself, the  majority of the time they have to really, really narrow it down to being  feminine and wearing dresses and just being lipstick chic. -Michelle Rodriguez”

Here are the lip color launches that topped my list:

Sisley Phyto-Lipgloss

Chanel Rouge Allure Velvet

Chanel Rouge Allure Velvet Lipstick ($32.50) – Chanel finally introduced a collection of matte lipsticks. I’m a fan of Chanel makeup. Their products are simply beautiful. My favorite feature of this lip collection is they are matte but are not dry and the colors have great pigment.  Chanel Rouge Allure Velvet Lipstick really wears well. This collection is in 11 gorgeous shades. I am complimented every time I wear this lipstick in L’Impatiente, a rich, deep plum color.
